Senator Grady moved to amend the bill on page 3, after line, 34 by inserting the following:
ARTICLE 5. COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
§18-5-55. Protection of vocational education agriculture programs.
(a) The Legislature finds that agriculture offers many benefits to the state and its individual citizens such as enhanced self-sufficiency, additional food security, contributions to the economy, and the enjoyment and satisfaction that can be experienced from various forms of agriculture.
(b) Vocational education agriculture programs shall be offered to all students yearly to ensure students are aware of the benefits of agricultural programs and to gauge student interest: Provided, That a county board may choose not to offer an agricultural program only if it is not viable. For the purposes of this section viability means, any or all, of the following:
(1) Having access to a certified teacher;
(2) Meeting workforce need;
(3) Student interest and enrollment trends;
(4) Access to appropriate and necessary funding; and
(5) Access to appropriate and necessary facilities.
